Allwood Machinerywas established in 1981 By Peter and Jacky Whitehead, followed 2 years later by Michael Hinks. Both Peter and Michael gained their experience in the industry at Interwood Ltd.

At first the company mainly carried out servicing and repair work to customers machines. This quickly developed into supplying pre-owned machines and mainly rebuilding ex-Interwoodequipment. With their experience in the Woodworking industry, customers would often ask for special purpose machines to be manufactured for their specific jobs. This work needed larger premises so after less than 5 years Allwood moved into a purpose built factory.

Eventually, a comprehensive range of new machinery agencies was built up, with machines supplied mainly through European companies, many of which are still solely represented by Allwood, These being Bi-Matic, Magic, Pinheiro and Unitec.
When in December 2001 Interwood closed after 73 years Allwood purchased the spares, stock, intellectual property rights and the Interwood trademark allowing Allwood to continue the well-established name and supply spare parts, accessories and advice.


THE COMING TOGETHER


Interwood was established in 1929 and over the years established themselves as one of the largest manufacturers of woodworking machines in England. Their machinery can be found in all four corners of the world.

Over the years, along with their manufactured machines, they established themselves as one of the major importers of machinery from Europe, becoming main UK agents for some of the most prestigious name in the industry.

During the late nineties many European manufacturers decided to go away from agents and sell directly. This and the high cost of manufacturing saw a slow decline in Interwoods fortunes.

In 2003, Allwood Machinery Essex Ltd purchased the company along with all the spare parts, drawings and intellectual property rights, this being an easy process as most of Allwoods employees were Interwood trained engineers.

We have carried on the Interwood name offering spare parts, advice, new machines, and through our well established rebuilding side, offering remanufactured Interwood machines.
